Ashtanga Yoga Classes

“I just love this audio yoga class – it has really deepened my yoga practice and increased my strength.” R.J – Cardiff, Wales.

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic style of yoga, the Postures can be strong and challenging. Ashtanga quite simply means eight limbs. The eight limbs of yoga are part of the ancient philosophy of yoga and have their first written record in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. The key principles of the practice are: - asana (posture), pranayama (breath), Vinyasa (the synchronisation of breath and movement), drishti (gaze), tristhana ( the three places of attention: - posture, breath and gaze)and bandhas (locks).

The late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915 – 2009) popularised Ashtanga Yoga globally. His Shala (school) in Mysore India has been visited by Yogis from all over the globe. Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient system of Yoga first taught by Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta. This text was imparted to Sri T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1900’s by his Guru Rama Mohan Brahmachari, and was later passed down to Pattabhi Jois during his studies with Krishnamacharya, beginning in 1927.
